The information
provided is current as of 9/21/2011.
The website of the county's Probate Court will have more detail and more current
information and a visit to the site or call to the office before going to the courthouse is advised. I am only listing the information here as a courtesy,
but generally you will need the following:
Your license must be obtained in the county in which you reside, and is valid anywhere in
the state of Ohio. If you are a non-resident you must obtain your license in the county in which the ceremony is to
be performed.
Proof
of identification: a certified copy of your birth certificate, a valid driver's license or valid passport. If your address
id not the same as it appears on your ID, you must provide proof of residence.
If you have been married before and are divorced or have had you
marriage dissolved you will need a certified copy of your divorce entry or dissolution with the raised Court Seal. Photocopies
are not accepted.
If your
former spouse is deceased, you must provide a certified copy of their death certificate.
If you have had a legal name change, you
must provide a certified copy of the court entry changing your name.
If you have all of the necessary documents, you license will be issued while
you wait and will be valid for 60 days. Please note that some counties (Mahoning) have up to a 5 day waiting period
before the license is valid.
All counties request cash and fees for the license generally run from $30.00 to $60.00.
