Here is some information that you may or may not find useful in your preparations:

Advertising is the biggest expense that a wedding minister has. Advertising fees for vendors can range from $20.00 per lead (whether you book the event or not) to over $400 per year for "membership".

I have been able to keep my prices reasonable because I do not pay the astronomical rates that some sites charge for advertising. I opt for free advertising and pass the savings along to you.

"BUYER BEWARE"

LAKE ERIE WEDDINGS
Charter Boat Captains (unless ordained and licensed and/or registered properly with their respective state) do NOT have the legal authority to officiate or solemnize a wedding performed on Lake Erie, at least as far as New York, Pennsylvania, and Ohio are concerned.

There are no International Waters on Lake Erie. You are either in Canada or U.S. (New York, Pennsylvania, Ohio, or Michigan) waters. Ceremonies "officiated" by a charter boat captain are not legal despite what they may tell you.

PENNSYLVANIA WEDDINGS
Ohio "Wedding Ministers" do NOT have the authority to officiate or solemnize a wedding in Pennsylvania. According to Pennsylvania law, a minister MUST have regular services with a regular congregation to solemnize a wedding in Pennsylvania.

The ministry that I founded with my wife, The Lost Sheep of Christ, does not operate within those terms. Currently, our focus has been helping individuals better themselves and their relationship with God. Therefore, I can not solemnize a Pennsylvania wedding.

It is your responsibility to research the "regular services" that your minister holds and see how "regular" the "congregation" is. It is your responsibility to verify that whomever you choose to solemnize your ceremony is properly registered with the state - ask to see their state-issued Certificate. Legitimate Ministers will not be offended.

If you don't, you may end up with a marriage that is not valid and should it ever be challenged in court, one or both of you may not have any legal grounds to fight on.

LAS VEGAS WEDDINGS
A wedding in Las Vegas may sound like a great idea. License fees in Clark County are $55.00 and then you have to add in the cost of the officiant which can start at $199! Weddings are big business in Las Vegas.
